Is the thought of scuba diving on your mind? We are glad that you came to us! Deepspot is one of the largest and most modern diving conditions simulators in the world! Here you will begin your diving adventure in perfectly clear and warm water, under the watchful eye of experienced instructors. And once you’ve swallowed the diving bug and stayed with us for a long time – you’ll be able to develop your skills and improve your qualifications in further courses.

Why is it best to learn scuba diving in a pool with the support of an instructor?

Spontaneous physical activities are an excellent investment in health and well-being. However, if you want to get seriously involved in any sport and practice it on a regular basis – it is important to develop the right techniques. The same is true for diving!

In theory, you can learn to dive on your own, for example, in a pool or lake, but without the support of a professional instructor – you will act intuitively in any situation.

Learning to dive with an instructor is a guarantee that you will gain the knowledge necessary to safely go underwater, dive and ascend. You will learn techniques for effective breath holding in freediving and effective underwater breathing using a compressed air cylinder in scuba diving. Learning will take place in a comfortable and fully controlled environment.

Do you need to be able to swim perfectly to start learning to scuba dive?

Advanced swimming skills are not necessary for a safe and satisfying dive. Intermediate skills in this area are definitely enough to enable you to freely swim a minimum of 200 meters on the water surface (any style and in any time) and a minimum of 15 meters below the surface.

Of course, the more confident and comfortable you are in the water, the more you will be able to focus on learning to dive.

What are the health contraindications to learning scuba diving?

Diving is a sport that is maximally accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. The diving adventure can be started by children (from 8 years old) and teenagers, as well as adults and seniors (no upper age limit!). The Deepspot pool is also accessible to people with mobility impairments – a diver with a disability is accompanied in the pool by 2 or 3 instructors.

Contraindications to diving are almost exclusively serious health conditions. These primarily include:

  • Serious respiratory diseases such as asthma, emphysema, tuberculosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD);
  • Serious ear diseases and past ear surgeries;
  • Serious and chronic sinus diseases;
  • cardiovascular diseases;
  • diabetes;
  • serious disorders of the nervous system.

Are you pregnant? Hold off on starting the dive until the solution. If you are weakened or ill on the day you were scheduled for your first or subsequent visit to the pool – reschedule your dive to another day.

It is good practice and a sign of a responsible approach to one’s health to perform at least basic tests and consult a doctor before starting any type of sport. Before you throw yourself into the deep water and embark on one of the most beautiful adventures of your life – check in with your doctor, who will give you the appropriate certificate of no contraindications to diving.

Can children learn to dive?

Yes! Scuba diving is a completely safe sport for children! Diving (Scuba) lessons can begin for children as young as 8. year of age. It is important that the child has the right body weight and can effectively cooperate with the instructor.

For low-weight or underweight children, the start of the diving adventure may need to be postponed by 2-3 years. If the child has problems with concentration and attention, and is unable to fully obey the instructor’s instructions – it will be advisable to delay the start of diving lessons until the child is more mature.

Types of diving for beginners – which type of diving to choose?

Before you go underwater for the first time, you need to decide what style you will do it in! Both diving practiced recreationally and that practiced professionally (at various levels of skill) are divided into two basic types: freediving and scuba diving.

Freediving, or diving on held breath

Freediving is otherwise known as “free diving,” also known as equipment-free diving. In freediving, you go underwater on held breath and without an aqualung, which is equipment that allows you to breathe underwater. Freediver dives in ABC equipment – mask and goggles and with fins.

In this type of diving, the length of immersion each time depends on how long you can safely and comfortably hold your breath. One of the key elements in preparing to start diving and then training to develop your diving skills is breathing exercises.

Scuba diving, or scuba diving with an aqualung

Scuba diving is equipment diving. This means that you go underwater equipped with ABC equipment and an aqualung (compressed air cylinder and breathing apparatus), equipment that will allow you to breathe freely while submerged.

This type of diving allows you to stay underwater for longer periods of time and continuously (without surfacing). If you choose scuba diving and you like this type of diving, in the long run you will be able to further develop your skills in various specializations, for example, wreck diving, cave diving or night diving.

What equipment do you need to start your adventure in learning to dive?

To begin the adventure of scuba diving – you just need to equip yourself with basic ABC equipment, namely a mask, snorkel and fins. This is individual equipment that should be precisely tailored to your needs and characteristics. The mask and goggles must fit tightly around the face, and the fins must allow the feet and legs to move comfortably.

ABC equipment is the only equipment for freedivers and the base equipment for scuba divers. An aqualung, or compressed air cylinder and breathing apparatus, is essential equipment in scuba diving. Before your first dive, the best idea would be to rent this equipment.
