Scuba diving

This is nothing more than scuba diving with an aqualung. During underwater diving, you will use a breathing apparatus (scuba) to breathe underwater. Scuba divers have their own source of breathing gas, usually compressed air, so they have freedom of movement and can swim independently and for longer periods of time than when diving on held breath. The diver moves underwater using fins. It is also equipped with a mask that improves underwater vision. Scuba diving, or scuba diving with an aqualung, can be practiced professionally, but also recreationally. A diver must master the rules for using equipment, emergency procedures and providing assistance to other divers and self-help. A minimum of physical fitness is required for recreational practice of this sport.

Freediving

It is also called free diving, on held breath. This is a form of underwater diving that involves holding your breath until you surface. The diver does not use any breathing apparatus, and as a result, the length of time in the water and the depth to which he descends are limited due to physiological effects. As with scuba diving, a minimum of physical fitness is required of the prospective diver, as well as prior knowledge of the technique of this type of diving.

Diving: for whom?

Diving, whether with equipment or on held breath, is a sport for almost everyone. “Almost,” because there is a certain list of exclusions that includes health conditions in particular. It’s a good idea to read the age and fitness requirements of a participant in a pool activity to see if diving is sure to be safe and fun.

the age of the diver

Standards set by diving organizations specify the minimum age for a person to dive. It is 8 years old for scuba diving classes and 10 years old for freediving, which means that already children can take the classes. However, there is no upper age limit for scuba divers. When it comes to children, it’s worth remembering not to force particularly sensitive toddlers (such as those with claustrophobia) into this type of sport. The child must also have a certain physical stamina and the ability to focus, because although he is under the supervision of an experienced instructor at all times, he must follow his instructions.

diver’s health

It can be assumed that a middle-aged person, with minimal fitness and no serious health problems, will be able to take diving classes. If you have any doubts, it’s always a good idea to ask your doctor. Contraindications to scuba diving occur when a person suffers from serious health problems involving the respiratory system, circulatory system, has problems with the spine, arms, legs, chronic and incurable diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, dermatological problems. Pregnant women, obese people, those prone to syncope, those with mental problems or even those suffering from claustrophobia should not take part in the activity.

Before even attending the course, each participant reads the list of contraindications and must answer specific and clear questions about his or her medical condition and medications taken. Honest answers are necessary to go underwater safely and without endangering yourself or others in the party.

physical condition

Before you go underwater, you should remember that diving equipment is quite heavy, and also moving underwater without equipment requires sufficient strength. Therefore, physical fitness is important, although it does not have to be at the highest level. Minimal is enough to cope during the first dive.
